Since Rome is such a central location you’re in luck, but if you want to know my expert opinion on the absolute Best Day Trip in Italy from Rome then get ready for good news! There are lots of great day trips to choose from. My top choices are
- Rome-Amalfi coast
- Rome-Tuscany (Sassicaia/Chianti)
Some of these locations are reachable by train, others by car. All in all, these locations are relatively close from 1-3 hours and are definitely doable day trips.
First, check out our Introduction To Rome page. If you have the full day to spend with us, you probably won’t want to miss our Rome in a Day tour which takes you through the wonders of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, as well as visiting the Palatine Hill which affords some breathtaking views across the city. Otherwise, our Skip the Line Vatican tour is a great introduction to the treasures of the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and the extraordinary St. Peters Basilica.
No. Our Italian Language classes include personalized slides that we adapt each week to fit your needs. Just use a notebook and come eager to learn.
Absolutely! Having lived in the heart of Italy for many years and being fully immersed in the culture here I can lend a helping hand. I have compiled an extensive Travelling to Italy Checklist with loads of information regarding what documents to bring, emergency numbers to know, what to pack, and what tourist traps to avoid.
The Vatican tour is suitable for older children, super young children may find it difficult especially during peak season. There are bathrooms available and places to eat snacks, however, it is not stroller-friendly. We recommend for kids to take our other tour similar to the Vatican called St.Peter’s Basilica and Castel St.Angelo tour which still lets them see the main Basilica and an interesting castle with twirly staircases!
You can also check out our Kids Tour Hub for all our children-friendly tours.
Yes, you must still go through security at all sites. You will enjoy the privileges of skipping the waiting line to enter the site which can at times be wrapped around the buildings!
The best time to avoid crowds is in the early morning. We advise during high season (summer months) to book Early Morning tours.
Let us guide you through a real Italian fresh food market, sampling produce at some of the best stalls, followed by a perfect lunch at a typical Roman trattoria on our Trastevere Food Tour– the ultimate Roman foodie excursion! If fine wine is your thing, make some time one evening for our Roman wine tasting experience, where an expert will guide you through six different local vintages. You can also learn how to Cook as the Romans do with a professional Roman chef if you’re more interested in getting your hands in the pasta! On all our tours, there’s usually time to stop for a drink or a quick snack to make sure you’re also tasting the best of Rome…. Otherwise, let us put together a bespoke gastronomic experience for you with one of our custom tours.
Don’t hesitate to check out our Italian recipes written by us and our tour guides around Italy. You can view those on our Facebook group and print them to keep.
Not a bit. We can help smooth every step, starting with your airport transfer, where a friendly English-speaking driver will be waiting to pick you up and take you to your hotel. All our tour guides speak fluent English and perfect Italian, so they can help you interface with the people we meet along our tours, as well as translating key signs or answering your questions. We’re always happy to recommend hotels and restaurants with English-speaking staff.
You can still steep yourself in Roman history with our tour through Hidden Ancient Rome, where we drive to some key sites just outside the center and then take a short stroll to understand them better. Our Cook as the Romans do cooking class is in a single location so you can focus on the gastronomic experience in comfort and style. We’re also happy to create especially for you a private driving tour of Rome. All of our Rome tour packages can also be customized to meet the needs of any members of your party, so don’t hesitate to ask – there’s always a way!
